Tania Alarcon-Montalvo is a highly qualified healthcare professional, holding licenses as a New York State Physical Therapist and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She completed her education at S.U.N.Y Downstate Medical School, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy in 1996 and a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy in 2003.
With over 20 years of experience, Tania has dedicated her career to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she has worked in a variety of clinical settings. Her expertise spans across treating diverse diagnoses, and she currently divides her time between orthopedic care and pelvic floor rehabilitation. Additionally, she devotes part of her schedule to providing mental health counseling in a specialized clinic.
Tania’s clinical experience has driven her to adopt a more holistic approach to healing. This commitment enables her to offer comprehensive treatment plans to patients of all ages, addressing chronic pain, neurological conditions, vascular issues, developmental concerns (including early intervention), and musculoskeletal problems. Notably, she is a certified lymphedema specialist through the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners/Chikly Health Institute, having worked closely with breast cancer patients for over four years. This experience inspired her to pursue a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2013 at The City College of New York, equipping her with the skills to address anxiety and depression in individuals facing and living with cancer.
Tania has further expanded her expertise by completing training programs at the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, Myofascial Release Treatment Center with John Barnes, and the Barral Institute. These additional certifications allow her to effectively address various women’s health issues, such as urinary incontinence, urinary frequency, urinary urgency, prolapse, and chronic pelvic pain.
Driven by her goal to provide a holistic approach to patient care, Tania integrates different modalities of treatment. Her treatment methods include visceral manipulation, myofascial release, bladder training, biomechanics and postural training, therapeutic exercises, and relaxation techniques. By combining these approaches, she aims to facilitate healing of both the mind and body.
