From a young age, Susan had a strong desire to work in the healthcare field. She discovered her passion for helping others while volunteering as a candy striper, providing care and companionship to residents in nursing homes. Throughout her high school and college years, she continued to dedicate her summers to working in various capacities in nursing homes.
Susan’s dedication and hard work paid off when she was accepted into the physical therapy program at the University of Missouri – Columbia. She excelled in her studies and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1993. Starting her career as an inpatient therapist, Susan focused on working with post-operative and critically ill patients.
During this time, Susan was introduced to pelvic floor physical therapy, which immediately captivated her. She was drawn to the opportunity to provide one-on-one care and was fascinated by the growing field of women’s health. Over the course of 18 years, Susan has gained extensive knowledge and expertise in treating a wide range of conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, and pre/post-natal dysfunction.
To further enhance her skills, Susan has attended various programs and seminars sponsored by reputable organizations such as the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and the American Physical Therapy Association’s Section on Women’s Health. She has also been actively involved in sharing her knowledge with others, presenting to community groups, speaking at grand rounds, and lecturing physical therapy students at Cleveland State University.
Continuing her commitment to ongoing education, Susan is currently pursuing additional training in orthopedic and manual therapy through Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She is working towards completing a doctorate degree and is particularly passionate about understanding and treating pelvic pain, as well as exploring the role of yoga in managing persistent pain.
Susan’s dedication to her field is evident through her contributions, including a case study on the role of yoga in pain management that was published in a 2015 issue of the North American Institute of Orthopedic and Manual Therapy newsletter. She is also working towards obtaining a certification in Professional Yoga Therapy, which ensures the highest industry standards for safety and is tailored for healthcare professionals interested in utilizing yoga as a form of medicine.
Susan is known for her empathetic listening skills and her commitment to helping her patients achieve their goals. She looks forward to partnering with individuals on their journey to wellness and providing the highest level of care and support.
