Before pelvic floor physical therapy became her professional passion, Stefanie Urbom, like many others, believed common misconceptions about women’s health. She heard comments such as “Everyone leaks a little when they sneeze” or “It’s normal to have painful sex after having babies.” Frustrated with the harmful information she received about her body and the lack of emphasis on rehabilitating the core and pelvic floor after pregnancy, Stefanie made it her mission to dispel these myths and empower her patients.

As a practicing physical therapist, Stefanie sought to enhance her knowledge and skills. She attended continuing education classes to improve her hands-on abilities and immersed herself in research about the pelvic floor, core, pregnancy, childbirth, and more. As her pelvic floor therapy practice grew, she realized the importance of allowing her patients to share their unique stories, as this had a profound impact on their healing process. Connecting deeply with her patients brought Stefanie great joy and she wanted every patient to have a safe space to tell their story.

Stefanie firmly believed that everyone has the capacity to embark on their own healing journey. She aimed to guide her patients through the misinformation and half-truths they had been told about their bodies. In her warm and welcoming environment, Stefanie provided practical, actionable, and effective treatment options. There was no shame or blame; the focus of each treatment session was on the connection between the breath and restoring the pelvic floor.

Throughout her career, Stefanie had the privilege of witnessing numerous healing journeys. She helped a patient achieve pain-free intercourse with her spouse, leading to their first pregnancy. She supported a retiree in overcoming her fear of frequent bathroom trips, transforming it into a conversation starter during road trips. Stefanie also empowered a patient to avoid unnecessary surgical intervention by teaching her how to manage abdominal pain caused by pregnancy-related issues.

Stefanie Urbom earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She received specialized training in pelvic floor dysfunction from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and in breast cancer rehabilitation and lymphedema therapy from Klose Training and Consulting. Additionally, she acquired skills in manual therapy treatment techniques from Great Lakes Seminars. Stefanie became a LANA-Certified Lymphedema Therapist through the Lymphology Association of North America and a Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine.

Outside of her work as a Physical Therapist, Stefanie cherished her marriage to Jon, whom she wed in 2010. Together, they had three wonderful sons named Henry, Theo, and Jack. Stefanie enjoyed spending quality time with her family, connecting with friends, practicing Yin Yoga, weight lifting, and exploring the great outdoors with her loved ones.
