Shalay earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2013 from Penn State University and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2017 from Rutgers University. She has become a recognized expert in the field of pelvic health, earning the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification. Shalay’s expertise has led her to serve as an adjunct professor for the Rutgers Doctor of Physical Therapy Program since March 2019, where she has written and instructed their Pelvic Health Elective. Additionally, she has taught as an adjunct professor for the Kean University DPT program.
Shalay is actively involved in professional organizations, including her role as a Co-Chairwoman for the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Black Physical Therapists (NABPT). She is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and their Women’s Health Special Interest Group. Shalay demonstrates her commitment to staying up-to-date in her field by regularly attending local, state, regional, and national professional meetings.
Throughout her career, Shalay has presented research at both regional and national conferences on various topics. Her research includes the efficacy of aquatic therapy as a treatment for breast cancer survivors and the implementation of a host position at a student-run physical therapy clinic.
Shalay is dedicated to empowering her patients to embrace healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, nutrition, self-care, and mindfulness. In her personal life, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, fishing, volunteering in her community, and helping individuals become health literate.
Currently, Shalay is treating patients of all genders, aged 7 and above, at the Center for Pelvic Wellness in Monroe at Penn Medicine Princeton Health.
