With 20 years of experience as a physical therapist, the individual has a diverse background that spans across multiple countries. Originally from Belgium, they graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven as a Physical Therapist in 2001. Seeking to expand their expertise, they pursued a two-year program at the University of Ghent, specializing in Orthopedic Manual Therapy.
Driven by a desire to explore the world, the individual embarked on their career as a physical therapist in Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, and Turkey. Eventually, their journey led them to New York City, where they spent five years working in an Orthopedic Practice on the Upper East Side. During this time, they dedicated themselves to enhancing their skills and knowledge through continuing education in Maitland Techniques, Manual Therapy at the University of St Augustine, Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and Kinesiotaping Institute.
In 2010, the individual became a mother and, as a result, developed a heightened awareness of the need for pelvic rehabilitation in the United States compared to Europe. This realization prompted them to expand their practice and become a Pelvic Health Specialist. They have since undergone extensive continuing education through reputable institutions such as Herman and Wallace, the APTA Women’s Health Section, and Pelvic Guru.
Staying up to date with the emerging field of pelvic rehabilitation and women’s health physical therapy is of utmost importance to them. They diligently engage with continuing education, literature, and books, ensuring that they provide the best possible care to individuals facing challenges with their pelvic health. Their greatest reward is witnessing their patients achieve their goals and reach their highest potential.
Outside of work, the individual and their spouse are passionate cyclists, actively involved in the local cycling community. They also enjoy hiking and backpacking with their children, Mila and Raffa, as well as their Golden Retriever, Sage. Being outdoors brings them immense joy.
As a business owner, they are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment at Pelvic Shanti. They strive to create a space where everyone feels safe, valued, and cared for. Embracing the diversity of humanity, they welcome individuals of different sexes, ages, races, ethnicities, national origins, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, financial means, educational backgrounds, and political perspectives.
