Michelle, a thought leader and architect for the Physical Therapy mobility program at the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health, utilized her clinical expertise to create a program tailored to this vulnerable population. She took charge of developing and writing a Physical Therapy specific treatment protocol, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to initiate and revise movement protocols. Michelle actively participates in research, reaching out to local universities and providing opportunities for job shadows and students to learn from her experience. She continuously explores appropriate interventions to ensure evidence-based care of the highest quality. Combining her background as a yoga and fitness instructor with her physical therapy skills, Michelle encourages clients to engage in movement and establish a “healthy” reconnection with their bodies, promoting rehabilitation and injury prevention. Recognizing the need for accessible meaningful movement in outpatient settings, Michelle drew upon her 11 years of experience to establish her private practice, Strength Within Physical Therapy & Wellness, in February 2019. Currently, she is expanding her practice to address common themes among individuals with eating disorders, as well as women during pre- and postpartum stages, with a specific focus on pelvic health and female athletes. As a weight-inclusive and HAES® informed practitioner, Michelle has been published in The Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy and has contributed as a text editor for Pathology: Implications for The Physical Therapist. She is an active member of iaedp and the Global Pelvic Health Alliance (GPHAM). During her free time, Michelle enjoys hiking the beautiful mountains of Colorado, participating in CrossFit, running, BUTI yoga, and cherishing moments with her wonderful husband and two young children.
