Mara embarked on her journey to becoming a pelvic health physical therapist after completing her bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Bio-Medical Sciences at CSU. Following her graduation, Mara pursued an education in massage therapy in Eugene, Oregon, where she obtained her license as a massage therapist. This experience greatly enhanced her manual therapy skills, but Mara desired to combine manual therapy with exercise to effectively alleviate pain and dysfunction in her patients.
Driven by her ambition, Mara decided to further her education and enrolled in physical therapy school at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center, where she ultimately earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. During her time in PT school, Mara developed a specialization in pelvic health. In her second year, she was honored with a scholarship to attend the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) through the Section on Women’s Health. This experience inspired her to become actively involved in the Section on Women’s Health, and she took on the role of Program Coordinator for the Student Special Interest Group. Additionally, Mara had the opportunity to moderate the CSM lecture titled “What does a Women’s Health Physical Therapist Really Do?” As part of her clinical rotations, she focused on pelvic health, further solidifying her expertise in this field. Furthermore, Mara was granted a scholarship from the APTA Colorado Chapter to attend their spring conference during her final term of PT school.
Before joining the Physical Therapy Specialists team, Mara established the Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Program at Denver Health Hospital. She also addressed primary care physicians during Grand Rounds, delivering lectures on pelvic health physical therapy. In addition to her specialization in pelvic health, Mara is skilled in TMJ dysfunction and orthopedic manual therapy. She is deeply committed to tailoring her treatment plans to meet the individual needs of her patients and assisting them in regaining their ability to engage in activities that hold personal significance. Mara places great emphasis on fostering open communication and encourages her patients to feel comfortable asking any questions they may have. She and her husband Dylan, along with their twin daughter and son, and their two dogs, Nina and Winston, reside in Centennial, where Mara finds great joy in calling home.
