Lauren holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Governors State University, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and sociology from Northwestern University. Before pursuing a career in physical therapy, Lauren worked in various fields including advocacy, mental health, firefighting, and emergency medical services.
In addition to her extensive education and experience, Lauren has obtained several specialty certifications in physical therapy. These include being a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT), a Pelvic Rehabilitation Professional Certificate (PRPC), and a Certified Yoga Therapist (CYT). She is actively involved in the field of pelvic health, serving as a board member of the Pelvic Health Research Initiative and as a research member of the International Continence Society and the North American Menopause Society.
Lauren is also a faculty member at Governors State University, where she teaches a course on Special Topics: Pelvic Rehabilitation Physical Therapy, Wellness, and Pharmacology. In 2023, she opened Chez Therese Specialty Physical Therapy to provide specialized care in pelvic rehabilitation, lymphedema, and oncological physical therapy to her community.
In her practice, Lauren focuses on treating a wide range of conditions and concerns. These include pregnancy-related issues, menopause-related issues, pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, bowel dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, lymphedema, lymph node transfer/bypass, stem cell transplantation, and addressing the bowel, bladder, sexual, and functional concerns of patients undergoing hyperthermal intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
As a published author in peer-reviewed journals, Lauren has contributed to the field of multidisciplinary care and surveillance. She also shares her expertise as a faculty member of the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Institute, where she teaches medical providers about trauma-informed care.
With her commitment to trauma-sensitive practice, Lauren aims to empower her patients in making meaningful and healthful lifestyle changes that improve their overall physiology and quality of life. Her dedication to her profession led her to become a Fellow of the Chicago Trauma Collective in 2017.
