Dr. Julie Baron serves as the Director of MTI’s Pelvic Health & Performance Center. She obtained her BA in Biological Sciences from Colby College in Maine in 2005 and earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rutgers University in New Jersey in 2009. Throughout her professional training, Dr. Baron received numerous accolades for her outstanding performance in academics, research, leadership, and community service.
Dr. Baron’s passion for orthopedics stems from her own background as a competitive tennis and softball player. Additionally, her personal experience with chronic pain and multiple leg surgeries fuels her empathy and dedication to her clients. As a mother of two, she discovered a particular interest in prenatal and postpartum care due to her own struggles with orthopedic issues, pelvic pain, and pelvic venous disorders during her pregnancies. Her first pregnancy involved a traumatic labor and delivery complicated by pre-eclampsia, while her second pregnancy was marred by a separated symphysis pubis and severe pelvic pain that persisted postpartum.
During this challenging period, Dr. Baron encountered difficulties in finding suitable treatment from various pelvic health specialists and medical providers. However, she eventually connected with a pelvic physical therapist who listened to her needs and devised a personalized care plan that proved effective. These experiences navigating the healthcare system during and after pregnancy have motivated Dr. Baron to assist others facing similar obstacles, such as locating compassionate providers, understanding insurance limitations, and finding individualized care that acknowledges each person’s unique journey.
To enhance her expertise, Dr. Baron has completed rigorous coursework in prenatal and postpartum care, pelvic floor training, gender-affirming care, and prenatal and postpartum fitness. Her treatment approach emphasizes a holistic perspective, taking into account the whole person and external factors that affect their well-being, including functional movement, sleep, nutrition, and stress. By adopting this comprehensive approach, Dr. Baron can effectively identify musculoskeletal issues and improve outcomes for her clients. She believes that through exceptional patient care, evidence-based treatment programs, and collaboration with other healthcare providers, her patients can achieve goals they once deemed impossible.
Active involvement in professional organizations is a priority for Dr. Baron. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Section on Pelvic Health and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Baron has presented her original research at annual state conferences, led symposiums on lumbar fusions, cervical fusions, and ankle rehabilitation, and provided in-services to personal trainers at local gyms. She also remains engaged in the research community, publishing on topics such as virtual reality’s role in rehabilitation and the role of physical therapists in screening patients for depression.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Dr. Baron enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two children. She finds solace in activities like hiking, traveling, cooking, and volunteering. Driven by her commitment to service, she embarks on medical missions to communities in Haiti and collaborates with the Special Olympics to further the profession and make a positive impact.
