Ibukun, also known as Ibbie, is a passionate physiotherapist who owns The Mama’s Physio in London, Ontario, Canada. With a deep love for her profession, she specializes in pelvic health and feels honored when women trust her with their care. Throughout her career, she has gained valuable knowledge and skills from her clients, helping her become a more effective therapist and a better person.
Ibbie’s interest in women’s health began during her Master’s degree in physiotherapy at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. During a rotation in international health, she traveled to a rural hospital in Uganda, East Africa. It was there, while working in the maternity ward, that she witnessed the importance of having a health advocate and coach for women during childbirth and the postpartum period. This experience planted a seed that eventually grew into The Mama’s Physio.
At The Mama’s Physio, Ibbie leads a team of five physiotherapists, all trained in pelvic health. They provide care for women of all ages, from late teens to seniors, and even treat children with pelvic floor challenges. Their approach to health is holistic, using the biopsychosocial framework to address pelvic health conditions. Their services include treatment for incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation, pelvic pain, sexual pain and dysfunction, abdominal/gut issues, diastasis rectus abdominis, pregnancy-related conditions, and more. For a comprehensive list, visit their website.
Ibbie’s educational background includes an honors degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario in 2005 and a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from Queen’s University in 2007. She has worked in both private and public settings in Ottawa and London and has attended numerous national and global conferences to stay updated in her field. She has also completed various post-graduate courses, including certifications in pelvic health. Her passion for learning is evident as she continuously explores the latest research in women’s health. Additionally, she initiated a pelvic health journal club that brings together physiotherapists in the region.
Her clinical interests extend beyond women’s health to peri-natal care, sexual health, integrated and collaborative treatment, and global health issues. Ibbie enjoys working with female athletes and leading seminars and workshops on pelvic health. She is registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) and the Ontario Physiotherapy Association. She is also an active member of the Women’s Health Division and has served as an executive member of the Global Health Division of the CPA.
Outside of her professional achievements, Ibbie is happily married and raising four young children. Her personal experiences have given her a deeper understanding and empathy for the women she serves at The Mama’s Physio. If you are in the area and in need of care or have any questions regarding your pelvic or peri-natal health, feel free to email her at info@themamasphysio.com.
