Dr. Peter A. Philip PT, ScD, COMT, PRPC is a highly educated and experienced physical therapist. He graduated from Quinnipiac University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy in 1996 and his Master’s degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 1999. Dr. Philip furthered his education by completing a Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy with a concentration in Orthopedics, Pelvic Pain, and Education in 2011.
Throughout his career, Dr. Philip has been dedicated to helping patients overcome pain and dysfunction. He has successfully treated both chronic and acute conditions by integrating his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathoanatomy. As a national lecturer for the Herman & Wallace Institute, he shares his expertise with medical doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and chiropractic physicians. His valuable knowledge has also been published as a textbook titled “Pelvic Pain and Dysfunction – A Differential Diagnostic Manual” by Thieme.
Since 1997, Dr. Philip has been the owner and director of Philip Physical Therapy, which is currently located in New Canaan, Connecticut. He started his private practice with limited resources, treating patients out of his truck with just a reflex hammer and folding table. Now, he is grateful to have a dedicated office space to serve his patients. Dr. Philip specializes in treating orthopedic and pelvic dysfunctions, pelvic pain, and bladder/bowel dysfunctions. He employs sound differential diagnostics and treatment strategies that consider the body as a functional unit. By taking a global perspective and identifying the specific pain generator, Dr. Philip helps his patients find relief and prevent future pain exacerbations.
In recognition of his expertise in nonsurgical medicine, the International Association of Orthopedic Medicine (IAOM) acknowledged Dr. Philip in 2010 and certified him as an orthopedic manual therapist (COMT). Additionally, in 2014, he became one of only eighteen clinicians, the sole East Coast resident/clinician, and the only male in the United States of America to receive a Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC). Dr. Philip credits Dr. Russell Woodman as his mentor and expresses his gratitude for the impact Dr. Woodman has had on his medical practice. Dr. Woodman introduced Dr. Philip to the art of manual medicine and differential diagnostics in 1991, and they even co-lectured on various topics related to the spine, hip, shoulder, knee, and ankle in 1995.
