Dr. MaryHelen Gustafson holds a doctorate in Physical Therapy, which she obtained from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA in 2009. As a licensed physical therapist, she has specialized in orthopedics and women’s health, with a particular focus on pregnancy and postpartum care. After experiencing her own pregnancy and delivery in 2012, Dr. Gustafson recognized the lack of comprehensive care available following the standard 6-week postpartum check-up. This realization prompted her to pursue additional education and training in order to offer her clients the most current and holistic care possible. She has completed courses through organizations such as Herman and Wallace and the Institute for Birth Healing, among others. Dr. Gustafson is deeply committed to educating her clients about the physical changes that occur during pregnancy, as well as what to expect during delivery and the postpartum period. To provide personalized treatment sessions that cater to her clients’ specific needs, she offers concierge/home visits and cash-based physical therapy services. Dr. Gustafson is certified as a Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist and in prenatal yoga, and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Birth Healing Specialist. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and participates in the APTA of RI’s special interest group in Women’s Health.
