With over 18 years of clinical experience in physical therapy and women’s health, Allyson brings a comprehensive and empathetic approach to her treatment plans. Utilizing her extensive training and expertise in evidence-based practice, she consistently achieves successful outcomes for her patients. Throughout her career, Allyson has demonstrated a strong passion for physical therapy.
For 8 years, Allyson served as a senior physical therapist at Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center), where she provided care in Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation and acute care on the Oncology and Women’s units. She played a pivotal role in the establishment of the hospital’s first Lymphedema Treatment Program. Additionally, Allyson has operated her own private physical therapy practice for nearly a decade. During this time, she has expanded her focus to include a wide range of abdominal and pelvic concerns affecting women, men, and children. Her expertise encompasses areas such as incontinence, pelvic and vaginal pain, prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal pain, osteoporosis, rehabilitation following breast surgery, lower back pain, lymphedema, conditions specific to female athletes, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, sexual health and wellness, and exercise.
In addition to her clinical work, Allyson has served as an adjunct clinical lecturer/instructor at ECU’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. She remains actively involved in academia, regularly delivering guest lectures on Women’s Health special topics. Allyson is an APTA certified clinical instructor for physical therapy students and offers on-site internships to students enrolled in accredited DPT programs. She is an esteemed member of the American Physical Therapy Association, actively participating in the Section on Women’s Health and Private Practice special interest groups. Allyson is also a passionate community speaker, engaging audiences on various topics including Breast Cancer, Sexual Health, Menopause, Osteoporosis, and Pelvic Health.
Allyson holds an honors degree from Drexel University, where she completed her Master’s in Physical Therapy in 1998. She has furthered her education by becoming a Certified Lymphedema Therapist through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in 2003. Allyson has also completed all levels of coursework on Pelvic Health through the APTA’s Section on Women’s Health. As a member of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), she is currently pursuing her Fellowship (IF) with the organization. Additionally, she is a Certified Mastectomy Fitter, having received training from American Breast Care in 2008 and certification from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics, Inc. in 2010.
Allyson resides in Greenville, NC with her husband and son. She actively contributes to her community as a board member of Women for Women of Pitt County and serves as a foster mom for the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina.
